Calling All Campus Ministries to a National Solemn Assembly
Dear Campus Ministry Leaders of America,
On June 28, 2010, a historic and troubling ruling was filed by the United States Supreme Court declaring that a state school could deny school funding and other benefits, including public use of buildings, to a Christian organization unless it was open to non-Christian membership and leadership. This would be like telling a Baptist church that it had to consider Hindu and atheist applicants for a pastor position. Or it would be like telling an African-American student group that it has to be open to white supremacists. It’s a ruling that defies common sense and threatens the First Amendment rights of all students. Already, we are hearing reports that schools are misusing this ruling to try to eject Christian student groups from campus.
We have now entered the days, when again, like Daniel and his three friends, Christians must stand on the truth of God’s Word and not bow down to intimidating forces that would cause them to compromise for the sake of political and cultural expediency. We believe that this ruling is an invitation for true believers to stand for truth, pray like never before, and proclaim boldly the name of Jesus on their campuses. To simply wilt in the face of this ruling or to surrender when campuses try to misuse it to take away your rights is to give away more ground to the Antichrist ideologies pervading our universities and campuses.
When judicial and governmental rulings threaten to silence the voice of the Church, she only has one great recourse; united fasting and prayer as an appeal to heaven. Esther and the Jewish world, finding themselves under the death decree of Haman, fasted and prayed and then God turned the tide on their behalf. So still, we believe that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. When Daniel and his three friends were threatened with abolishment of their club on the campus of the university of Babylon, they united together in an all-night prayer gathering and God reversed the king’s decree and the testimony of Daniel’s God was proclaimed to the whole nation. What the enemy means for evil, the Lord brings about for good.
Therefore, we are calling all university students, campus groups, and campus ministry leaders from all over America to gather together for TheCall Sacramento, a 12-hour solemn assembly of fasting and prayer on September 3rd & 4th. We are holding this national solemn assembly on the 10-year anniversary of TheCall DC, where over 400,000 young people and adults gathered together to cry out to God for America. The stakes are higher now than they were ten years ago. It is time for a spiritual revolution on the campuses of America.
Burdened for America,
Lou Engle
